Summoning Assistance

A couple of weeks back I was doing an electronics check on the boat and while performing a radio check with my VHF I hear US Coast Guard give a securite call on a hazard to navigation. Upon hearing the call I remembered this article that I put together over nine years ago for the newsletter. While the article is quite old, I can assure you that nothing has changed in regards to summoning assistance over a VHF radio. Enjoy:

"Bail Out" Makes Annual List of Top Ten Boat Names
Boat names can reveal much about the personality of a boat owner. Or, they can also serve as signposts of the modern era. With the release of the annual Top Ten List of Most Popular Boat Names by Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS), one newcomer to the list stands out. "Bail Out, the number five pick, clearly speaks volumes about what's on boaters' minds," said BoatUS President Nancy Michelman. "With today's economic uncertainty, naming a boat Bail Out could indicate that boating is a survival mechanism for the family that will keep them afloat," she added.
The list is assembled each year by the BoatUS Boat Graphics service which offers a free library of over 8,500 boat names and also allows boaters to easily select, custom design and preview boat names online - without having to pay up front. For more information or to view videos on how to install a vinyl boat name, visit the online service at BoatUS.com/boatgraphics. A list with the annual top ten boat names - starting from 1991 - can also be found at the Web site.
Here is the Top Ten List of Most Popular Boat Names:

2. Seas the Day
3. Lazy Daze
4. Jolly Roger
5. Bail Out
6. On the Rocks
7. Pegasus
8. Serenity Now

The Final Word

Well we pretty much got the same fishing report over the last several weeks. A day of rain, a day of wind, a day of cold. You better be ready to take a day off of work at the drop of a hat because the good weather fishing days come and go rather quickly, and they rarely fall on the weekend here lately. We have had a few days mixed in that were fishable and those that have gone are finding some nice Reds on the flats. There are also some great reports on Sheepshead at the reefs, a few nice Stripers up the Wando and Cooper and the big Shad run is just beginning.
Offshore the big talk continues to be over the spectacular reports of Wahoo. The fish are being caught on both planners and on the surface. The Rally on DC is getting finalized. Check the offshore discussion for the details on the charter bus trip.

Tight lines…
