72 and hooked on striper (moultrie)

Took my dad out for a night on moultrie down around the dam.
Seems to be the same results as others 25-30 shorts all around
21-24inches. We did manage one keeper 27in out of the night,
But my dad had a ball and enjoyed the not stop action
and kaos of multiple hookups. His only complaint was he couldn’t finish a beer  Unbeleivably it was his first time
catching striper and he is officially hooked. We fished from 9pm until just after midnight and had action the whole time trolling around the dam just outside the bouys. Don’t know if this boads well for the future with all the shorts or just what happens to be there currently. I do know that i’ll be able to keep my dad up past his bed time again for the chance at some bigger guys. Old dog still learning new tricks. I feel fortunate to be able to teach him something new.

congrats on all the fish…I have my father in-law hooked too now…the look on his face reeling in one of the big ones was priceless

That is great to hear. Im glad ya’ll got o some good fish. I might have to take up striper fishing cause the catfish sure havent wanted to cooperate lately.LOL

I usually troll for stripers during the daytime and watch for schooling activity. I troll with Shad Raps and Rattletraps and do pretty good. I have tried at night with minimal sucess. What were you using for bait?

SWEET, THATS WHAT WE LIKE TO HEAR!!
BTW> I havent heard of anyone getting their “bait fish” permit?? I got mine>> and they have a new set “of rules”…{thanks Lynn…LOL…}
I remember when it was 21" and you couldnt catch a 21", they we all 20" and now 26" and they are all {mostly} 21-24" the new laws seem to be working!!
I cant wait to tie into a 26" fish at 40ft on a troll…

Awesome job there Rick!! I would love to get my dad on some of that action, but he never feels like it, plus he doesn’t like the dark…
I hope the bigger ones show up soon! I would like to get another hawg like the one I got last year, maybe a few like that!!:wink:

I have heard that there is something in the works to change the “rules” for fishing around the dam. That would be nice!

I finally got my permit, but I really don’t need one, I guess…

to cooper river man , i was using 7" mirrolure divers and mann stretch 25s
trolling at just over idle speed in my 20ft key west.I have experimented with the tackel box but the bigger lures that get down out perform anything else i’ve tried. Spread was 50pulls back right long, 40pulls left long, right short 25pulls, left short 15pulls
sounds like an offshore set up huh, anyway had bites on all but more on the longs. Even had 4 on at once and considered pairing down to two poles after several two man rodeos and tangled lines all in the fun i suppose.
To lynn thanks , Ya my dad has blown me off several times as night isn’t his thing either , but now that he has tried it he likes it.
Night is usually not crowded and peacefull out there and often the bite is good this time of year. I owe all the credit to you as you showed me the ropes. Also i ventured inside the bouys to throw a net for some catfish bait, figuring i would get a throw or two before the terroist police showed up and toss me out. They never even came out-- go figure.
