Trailer Parts

I need a new axle for my trailer. Axle broke right at the flange today while towing to the ramp. It’s a 2006 trailer and I hit a dang pot hole and it just flat broke. Boat US trailer assist/Turkey Towing took care of getting the boat back on a flat bed truck for me. First time I had to use them on the road. Pleasant experience. Now I have a boat and trailer with one side of the axle gone sitting in the driveway.

So where can I pick up an axle in the Summerville/Charleston area. I can do the work myself. Just don’t know where to go.

Fields Ornamental Iron on Cross County Rd (843) 552-9432

The Trailer Shop 748 King Street Mount Pleasant (843) 971-7606

I’ve dealt with both and they will do you right.

I know Seel’s carry’s trailer parts. Can also get parts from Northern Tool but recommend supporting local guys. Fields replaced one for me a few years back. Good people.

Tractor Supply, AgriSupply in Florence

Tommy Stone at The Trailer Shop built one for me for less $ than what I could have bought one online. He got it back to me the next day AND it’s a stronger (thicker tube steel) axle with spring perches vs. drilled holes in the axle.

I got my axle and springs off yesterday afternoon and I am dropping them off to Tommy today to have him make me an axle and pick up some more springs as well. The axle breaking also showed another problem as well. My tongue is rusted out on the bottom. So the torque of the axle breaking twisted my tongue. So I will be picking up some 3x3 tubing from him as well. Basically going to be a whole new trailer when I get done this week.

I hope others notice what you mentioned about your tongue being rusted out on the bottom. Good reminder to others to check theirs. I saw what happens when not checked. It’s easy to forget about, easy not to notice (top three sides look great) but catastrophic when it fails. Hope everyone takes note.

Yep, it was all the way through in one area and paper thin in another area. The axle breaking showed me the problem with the tongue. I would have hated to have that break on the road on me. You could not tell one bit that it was bad by looking at it. You had to crawl under to look at it.

Got all the new parts back together this morning and took it for a 5 mile spin to get all the bolts settled in and tightened. Taking the family out tomorrow for some much needed boat time.

The Trailer Shop over in Mt. Pleasant is a great business. I had a new axle and parts in under 24 hrs. I could have picked it all up the same day if I could have gotten back over that way. The axle that he made for me is twice as thick as my factory one that broke. And they guarrantee it for life. All for the same price as the factory axle. Can’t beat that with a big stick. A big thank you to Tommy and the folks at the Trailer Shop.
