Stono River help

Hey y’all its sad to say but I’ve been transplanted up to Pennsylvania the last seven months as I took a job with the State Police up here. With that said we graduate on Friday and I’m bringing a buddy back home for a little vacation. He wants to go fishing so who am I to let him down. My folks live in Stono Ferry with the boat so I was looking to take him to the Stono but I do not have a lot of experience fishing there. Anyone have any advice as to where to try and go on the Stono or what to use this time of year? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can’t help you very much…as far as catching is concerned! I was out last week and tried every spot that I’ve had luck at during the warmer months and got zip, nothing, nada! So, if you want advice on how not to catch fish, I can help you!!! Maybe some others have had better luck!

Fish in that part of the Stono have been sparse based on my trips there this winter. With that said, the docks around the golf course and to the north and south do hold fish. You will have the advantage of a mid day low tide which will bring any fish to you. Find some docks near small feeder creeks into the marsh. Dead shrimp on a very light Carolina rig (less that 1/2 ounce) fished in 1-3 feet of water next to the docks and along the banks between the docks and creeks will produce if there are fish around. Number one rule for fishing for reds along that stretch is stealth. Make and noise and they quickly move to the next dock. Don’t try to chase them. Be patient and they will eventually move back.

Reds all over the place just use trolling motor and be quiet.
