Chasing Trout and Reds today

Water temp 58,clear in spots to 3 feet.Fished Metal Trades and all areas around for 2 miles. All My spots and all We caught was one trout on the Opening night.Called it a day after 5 hours.

They were biting in my little creek yesterday Joe. One at 14" and two pushing the 19" mark. Super slow retrieve, like ridiculously slow. Missed at least two more fish in about twenty minutes just as the water started to move out a bit. Once current started moving fast, the bite went away. Or at least I couldn’t feel it anymore.

What were you throwing? Have you tried Paul Brown’s Original Suspending Jerk Bait? This is my fav time of the year to catch big trout on suspending jerk baits. Pink works well for me.

23Sailfish, what weight jig head were you throwing. I always start out with 1/4 oz. If current is too strong, I’ll go up to 3/8 oz…then, if not satisfied, I’ll go to 1/2 oz., but that’s usually in deeper water AND current. I feel completely helpless when I can’t stay in touch (feel) my bait.

I was throwing the mirrolure equivalent of your favorite suspending bait! Also my favorite this time of year. I’ve tried jigs on the bottom, but I don’t get any reaction right now. The suspending baits are my favorite too simply because I can work up and down the water column without tying something new on. I’ve had the best luck letting it sink to the bottom and working it back slow staying between 2’ and the bottom. The trout don’t want to bite it, but they way that little thing dances, they just can’t help themselves!
