Cool Find

Cruising the backroads of N. Florida and we come across this.

I was excited, and psyched that my kids were too. Surprised they even knew who he was. Who knew he was buried in Bronson, FL?

So I have to ask… What you doing driving around Bronson? I had to google it to even know where it was. There are some barren areas around there. Got a cousin lives between there and Trenton. Talk about some “Southern drawl”…

We we’re on our way to Weeki Wachee and decided to take a route we had never been before. Glad we did. Saw Tom Petty Park in Gainesville too!

My wife and I love taking the back roads on road trips. Last year, there were tons on the trip out west to California and back and this year will be tons more up the coast to Maine in October. There is a great site that, much like CF.com used to be amazing, but lately has gone downhill called Roadside America.

https://www.roadsideamerica.com/location/

Random roadside attractions are always fun. The old school ones off Route 66 that are dying are still really cool to stop and check out. One of the most recent ones in Louisiana that I was blown away by was the actual spot of the Bonnie and Clyde ambush. Really cool sight to see. The United States has some amazing history right under your nose if you’re just willing to do the work along the way.

neat link 23… If you are headed up to Maine go ahead and hit up Nova Scotia. Made it to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax and always wanted to go to Sydney. Maybe one day. Tides are crazy up that way.

great thread.

maybe this site’s demise isn’t certain.

The better half is right, I need to get out more…

Thanks for sharing DF, have fun down there!:+1:

…well, some fishing too!

Border is still closed last I heard.

We’re not going that far anyways. We went to Canada two years back (Toronoto, Niagra), but I do plan on a full vacation Canada style at some point.

Kennebunkport is wonderful. We go there occasionally in the summer.

We charter with Bruce Hebert from wicked tuna… Really cool dude, and very laid back…

Dang it, I didn’t even think of that. Good call. Just searched it and they will not open until vaccination rate is 75%.

I want to drive the Alaska highway and spend some time in British Columbia.

You get around for an old man. A box wine woman will keep you lights on the feets. Play on playa.

The ENTER-NET Fisherman

Some of my father’s ancestor’s came into the northwest US in the late 1800s from Saskatchewan, so that’s really somewhere I’d like to visit one day. They fled from some of the poorest beat down parts of Russia to Canada to escape religious persecution and war. They were most likely Doukhobors, and that culture/lifestyle is still on display there today. World history is fascinating; the sacrifice they had to go through trumps anything I’ve ever remotely experienced. People today think they have it rough. We’d all be doing our fellow man a proper service if we simply remembered those that came before us.

Isn’t that the truth 23, not many living today have had to face any real hardship in our country. I’ve got a cousin that is really big into our family ancestry. Dad’s side Irish / Cherokee. Two groups came in one from N.Y and the other out of Savannah. The Cherokee was tried to be kept secret. Back then it was looked down on mingling with the Natives, we think his surname was Gatch. Mom’s from England so no telling what mix of anglo saxon/ Viking she has. My roommate and I left out of Winnepeg to go as far as we could. Made it a long way up, but got scared about gas so we turned around. The most beautiful Northern lights ever. Mostly Green, but occasional red and blue. Uncanny, you can see how it inspired superstitious fears in early settlers and native Americans. Canada has some might barren areas. Got to go out to one timber harvesting area to check out a processor. Was flown in… Trucks had to drive Miles of woods road and they had fuel stops along the way. Lots of barren land throughout Canada. The Government would give the loggers the wood basically free to supply jobs.

Babbling waiting on a tardy person. Look forward to meeting you when the figs are ready. Got a few trees flagged out for you. A little late to plant but they should be fine close to the water’s edge, they are pretty hardy. If they die, I’ll get you more.
