Buying a boat out of state

Do you realize how much money your government just takes from you?

So, I bought a boat out of Florida, where the seller paid his property taxes in 2021. I bring the boat to Charleston and start to get it registered here. I fill out all the paperwork and send it in with my $530 Excise tax check…which is another crooked thing, but we won’t get into that now. The government just has to have its greedy fingers in everything. Columbia sends my paperwork and check back to me saying that I owe property tax on the boat and motor. Wait, the property taxes have already been paid for in 2021. No, South Carolina ALSO wants property taxes. Isn’t that double taxation? I guess its legal because its on the state level? Regardless, it feels dirty.

I know you can’t fight it, but the sheer gluttony that our government displays is disgusting. Not only do I have to pay $850+ just to use my own personal property on public water that I purchased, Florida also got paid a property tax.

And, that’s just the local/state stuff.
National Tax Freedom Day was April 16th.

Our Founding Fathers would be really really disappointed with what we consider freedom.

Seen the movie (or read) Hunger Games.
We’re there.
We just don’t want to admit it.

Taxation Poem</font id=“size5”>

by Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, AOC & The Squad, Polly-Ball, Bob/Bill, and Dumbass Democrats Everywhere

Tax his land, tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.
Tax his tractor, tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule

Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.
Tax his ties, tax his shirts,
Tax his work, tax his dirt

Tax his chew, tax his smoke,
Teach him taxes are no joke.
Tax his car, tax his grass,
Tax the roads he must pass

Tax his food, tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his sodas, tax his beers,
If he cries, tax his tears

Tax his bills, tax his gas,
Tax his notes, tax his cash.
Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough

If he hollers, tax him more,
Tax him until he’s good and sore.
Tax his coffin, tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays

Put these words upon his tomb,
“Taxes drove me to my doom!”
And when he’s gone, we won’t relax,
We’ll still be after the inheritance tax

Can I get an AMEN up in this biotch? HIgh 5? Fist Bump? Thumbs Up?

It used to be “Tax and Spend” was the way of the Democrats. Anymore it’s “Spend Now, Keep On Taxing”

Hey, at least they aren’t sending out mean tweets, right?

EF.
Too bad that’s so true or it’d be really really funny. But it is funny.
In 99 I bought a1996- 28’ Bayliner that was used in the Olympics. Owned by the state of Georgia. Was having a hard time getting it registered so I finally said to hell with it. I usually left out around 04 and didn’t get back till 9:00 or 10:00 so I wasn’t much worried about it. DNR got me 1 time coming in on the 4th of July.$100 ticket.
I run the boat for 7 years. All the state of SC got out of Me was that $100 on that boat…
I miss that boat I beat the hell out of that thing.

You find things offensive. I find things funny. That's why I'm happier than you.

22 life’s a day

Up here they call those Bayliners “Oh Boats”, mostly because when you tell someone you have a bayliner they generally say “Oh” and the conversation goes south. I’ve beat the schitt out of a bayliner in my day too.

When I was living at Edisto (back before the dark times) I bought a boat from a dead guy, well his estate actually. When I went to Walterboro to get the paperwork straight I found out that the hull and motors were taxed as 23Sailfish said above, but not the trailer. I decided to drop back and punt, but to make a long story short I registered the hull in NC where I lived half the time and kept the boat at Edisto. There I needed no tag on the trailer, no stickers on the motors, and had to pay a small amount of descending property tax in NC for the hull each year.

For what it’s worth, South Carolina has one of the lowest tax rates on spirits in the Southeastern USA, so theres that.

Yeah but, think of all the “good” the government does with all of OUR money. They maintain roads (some of them) provide so many vital services (slowly and inefficiently) and so many other things that could never be done better by private enterprise.

Hey, look at what just happened at SC State. They just forgave 9.8 millions in student debt for 2,500 students. There is NO WAY they could have done that without your generous contributions to the tax pot. You can’t tell me that story doesn’t give you a warm and fuzzy feeling.

"Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It's Hand", but really, who cares?

Someone’s got to pay for all those kicking back living off the free Ice Cream. It certainly is frustrating.

I’d love to see Property tax go away and made up with a flat sales tax. Then all those in government housing, renters, all the illegal’s here and the thousands of illegal’s crossing into America daily could start paying a tiny portion of their share.

I would support a flat tax as well as un-complicating the tax code. With a flat tax, at least I would feel like everyone was paying their fair share. And there’s no reason that anyone, ANYONE, in a free society should have to hire a professional to ensure they aren’t getting screwed over by their own government come tax time. Its absurd.

  1. Voters are stoopid. e.g. referendums with names in the title like children, roads improvement, library. Voters approve them overwhelmingly

  2. Incumbents almost never lose. Don’t matter how they vote on taxes

  3. Even the “fiscal conservatives” tax us. e.g. the the sc gas tax hikes

We get what we deserve in leaders and taxes. They’re coming for your 401k next. We’re doomed
