Artificials really producing now

Found some scattered reds on a incoming tide mud flat looking for warmth. If you could see them, they would bite. On a side note, I went back the next day and it was very overcast and didn’t get the first red, so there’s certainly something to them being up on the flat on a sunny day this time of year.

Also found the trout starting to stack up a little bit. Still pretty scattered around but I did manage 6 off of one dock. Caught 13 total, up to about 18". All released. If you can get out there, now’s a great time of year.

That is all.

Dang it man. You’re killing me!!! First the big buck and now this ???
Thanksgiving 4-day weekend… I hear them calling me…
With the price of beef. $15.99lb for New York strip. Might go try to get on a deer. Wife and I both bought our licenses this year first time in probably 20 years…
I want to take one with a pistol.

95% of the red meat we consume is venison now. We started that as a heath decision, not a price thing, but dang beef has gotten out of control! Venison has zero antibiotics and no added chemicals. I guess its possible that they might be exposed to certain pesticides in farming practices, but I’ll certainly take my chances on that over the grocery store where honestly, we just don’t know the history of the meat.

Plus the reduced fat in the venison is a big benefit. Make spaghetti or chilli with ground beef and there’s a thick layer of fat/grease on top. That doesn’t happen with venison. And my body likes it too. I don’t get a bellyache after eating venison chilli. If you’ve never experimented with this, you owe it to yourself.

You are suppose to brown your beef first and drain off the fat. I’ve got the wife doing 1/2 & 1/2 beef and venison in spaghetti and chilli now. Got to watch what processor you use, most all add beef or pork fat to the burger or sausage. If I let a processor do mine I always tell em to add NO extra fat.

Nice Catch and report!

That is just plain mean. I have actually fished more in Florida the last 2 years than I have SC. I “thought” I’d make time to come to the coast this fall as that is my favorite time to fish but, it hasn’t worked out that way. Looks like a great day Ricky.

A wise man (Vinman) forced/taught me how to fish with artificials. I’m thankful that he did. Still haven’t caught anything on topwater.

Come fish with me anytime. I have the topwater trout figured out. Never giants, but a ton of fun. I can catch them in my little creek starting now until mid January, then they taper off.

Topwater is one of those things you have to commit to. Once you figure it out, it’s hard to beat!

Wanna chime in, as me and several buddies have processed many deer in my shop. Have grinder and cuber.

Venison should have a minimum of 10% beef fat or suet. Sausage, 30% pork fat. Have made more pounds than I can count.

Always awesome.

As Fred eluded to, you can pour off, or skim with spoon.

There is a product that is awesome to absorb oil and grease that floats on top when cooking. Google Oil Sol pads. You don’t have to let it sit on top of a big pot of what you are cooking, just take a piece of it and dip in to soak up the grease you want removed. You will thank me later.

Works in pool as well in the skimmer when oiled up folks get in there. It floats and does not get sucked down to bottom of skimmer.

Carry on
NN

I’ll have to ask my processor how much he adds. The fat is very minimal in my ground venison.

I’ll definitely try to come join you one day Ricky. Thanks!!

Just give me a heads up when you’ll be around and we’ll make it happen!

Very nice… Top water the last few trips has been very productive in the early mornings, but only for about 30 mins or so, and all have been under 15. Still a good time when you snag 8-10 or so in a 30 min whack:+1:
