my buddy called me from palm beach yesterday and told me the story. i was a freind of his that had been fishing for spinners sharks when he had a massive hammerhead cut one in half right at the boat. he caught a stingray, rigged it up on some HEAVY gear and began to troll it around. a few hours later the hammerhead hit the ray and it was on. fish bottomed out the scale at a 1000 lbs. official weight was yet to be determined when i spoke to him yesterday morning.

The older I get, the better I was.

just found it, he was in port charlotte/boca grande pass and the fish weighed 1280.

The older I get, the better I was.

Which is another reason I would NEVER get in the water at BGP. Ive seen some HUGE bulls and hammerheads there. When the Tarpon are in, half the battle is getting the T to the boat intact.

6ft, you are talking about 2 different fish right? Boca and Singer are nowhere near each other as far as I know.

We were at boca a week or two after that 1280 was caught, I believe that was 2 years ago.

I’ll agree with R&D, BGP is definetly not a place to swim. I’m suprised no one has caught Hitler out there yet.

Maybe you should check to see what the biggest state record fish caught right here in SC is. I'll give you a hint... It weighed 1780 lbs. That is not a typo.

Actually, now that I think about it, I dont know if I’d be more scared of getting eaten by a shark or run over by boaters jockeying for position out there. What a circus…but still worth it…

That’s a big shark. The video is pretty sweet stuff.

your right. the story i found was 06. the one my friend described to me was 2-3 days ago and i believe the bait he was using was a spinner shark intsead of a ray. my bad.

Bocca Grand Pass is like fishing for tarpon in the middle of rockville regata. we did see a couple of tarpon get eaten buy a few giant sharks

Great analogy!!! Trolling at night with live crabs is the way to do it!!!

We were using live crabs, brown shrimp and squirrel fish. It was nice being out there at night we didnt have to worry about all the jiggers. We were on a boat call the ANEJO with Capt Tater Spinks. one of my good buddies has been fishing with him every may for a long time and they took me last year.

Plus, being out at night adds a bit of excitement, too, seing those big shimmering beasts fly out of the water. Nothing hits like a Tarpon!

The smallest one I cought did just that. A few seconds after hook up it took off and jumped about a half-dozen time right off the transom in the spreader lights.
