I have been trying put some friends of mine on some bull reds at the jettys and was wondering if spring is a good time of year to get them?

Typically Fall is the best time.

Charter Capt Fritz one time and you'll learn how to target them, when, and where and how. Its his specialty.

Get you a maps unique and fish over some live bottom, you can find our big lady breeder reds there too. Just please land them quick and make the photo op short and sweet. Hit the creeks and get a couple of in slot reds and cook em up for your friends.

Don’t target big reds ,they make all the eggs for more spotail. They usually die or get eat by a shark when you turn them loose.Go after a reef donkey if you want a fight.

The problem with the big reds in spring and summer is they tend to be in deeper water. The mortality rate increases tremendously. Even venting or using a descent device. + The oxygen levels are lower as the water warms. There's plenty of 20-30" fish in the creeks right now. Target them and let the big girls have the summer off.

We caught a 56" red 3 maybe 4 years ago Little River jetties.
The fish had a hook in it's throat. I could see the eye of the hook. Had a 6 ft wire leader hanging out of his mouth. Nipped wire off at the hook. Tagged her set her free.
About a week later she was recaptured in murrells inlet.

Sman is old like me. He makes a valid point...

I like 23's suggestion. A professional knows how to treat his resource....and he has nice hair...and a wife that cuts the grass...something to be said for that. Take your buds and be done with it.

The peeps I learned to fush from around here...rowed a boat to get there. They were meat fisherman.

Only fush I target around here I can't eat is a tarpoon...and not often.

Why can't I start a new topic?
