Bums and homeless

I usually carry my lunch. But I forgot it this morning so I went to Hardee’s to get lunch. A chili dog, mushroom & Swiss and small fries$12 and change.
WOW…
Fella comes in with his pregnant girlfriend, wife whatever. wearing flip flops and shorts. They were driving 2 or 3 year old Honda nice car. Don’t know why but these people always seem to key in on me…
Hey bro. Can you help me and my pregnant wife out and buy us lunch. No. But if you go home and put some shoes and pants on and come back across the street I will give you a job $14 an hour. All you have to do is roll a magnet around in the parking lot and keep it picked up around my dumpsters. Pay you cash at the end of each day…
Pifff. I told you we were hungry I didn’t ask you for no f@#* job.
Oh no he didn’t.
I told him what a piece of s*** I thought he was. And told his little girl friend wife I was sorry that she was involved with such a low life.
There was 5 other people in the store.
4 of them started running their mouths and telling me I’m a heartless SOB. some people just need help. On and on and threatening me. An elderly black lady got up from her table and come over . She laid it down. explained to them what it’s like to be hungry and to work 16 hours a day to put food on the table for her family.
She got right up in a little punk’s face and told him he should have been grateful that I was offering him a job. And if he was a man he would get off his sorry ass and take care of his girl and baby. Then turn to the girl and told her she thought she was just a sorry as her little boy husband. Told her she don’t even think that she was pregnant I think you just fat. Then she turned around and dressed the other people down for supporting them… They all left the restaurant.
She asked me to sit down and eat my lunch with her. I did.
She was the daughter of a sharecropper in Georgia. Who was killed in the Great war…
At 18 her mother passed. She managed to keep a roof over her 4 siblings heads. She had don

You are a good American OTC, of this I feel certain.

Great story, and so indicative of our current society.

One thing’s for sure, Hardees big angus char broiled burger is a hard fast food burger to beat.

Funny, I had a similar (2 actually) story. Guy wandered up to me at Sportsman’s Warehouse asking for money for formula for his baby which was across the street in a shady motel with his GF. He was smoking, had a brand new pack of smokes in his shirt pocket and was drinking a Mt. Dew, AND reeked of beer. I asked him why he didn’t buy formula instead of smokes and a Mt. Dew and why he reeked of beer and he got huffy with me. and said “never mind”.

Story #2, a guy at Target asks for $ for food as he was “really hungry”. I told him I had no cash on me, got in my car and left. AS I pulled away, I looked at him in my rearview mirror I felt a pang of guilt so I turned around and went back. I got out of my car and told the guy if he would walk over and meet me at the restaurant across the parking lot, I would buy him whatever he wanted for lunch, including desert and drink (I truly had no cash as I seldom do). The walk was maybe 150 yards. He said, “nah, I don’t want to inconvenience you, if you could just give me a few bucks”. I again told him I had no cash and repeated my offer. He then says, “if you could just go to an ATM and get a few dollars”. I told him no, as that would be an inconvenience because we weren’t near a bank and again, made my offer of a fully paid, free lunch. He kept on about cash so I said, “well, you obviously aren’t really very hungry”.

The vast majority of these panhandlers in parking lots and intersections either are truly not homeless or, would rather beg for money than get a job. They will rarely accept food over $ and will never accept the offer of “work for food”. Most simply want money for drugs/alcohol so when you give them $, they are doing these folks no favors.

"Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It's Hand", but really, who cares?

I took a picture last week in Beaufort (wish I could figure out how to post it ). A “lady” was standing near the chick filet with a home made sign begging for money for her supposed hungry children. The reason I took her picture was she was standing in front of the chick filet sign the read “now hiring, signing bonus paid”.

Great post, OTC. As well as the followups.

See plenty of these around Augusta. Some I feel sorry for, as they are truly disabled. Others, ****, they look healthier than me, lol. With hiring signs everywhere.

Had one walk up to me awhile back while filling my truck. Had some spill about leaving his wallet at church down the road after working there and just needed enough money/gas to get there and back to a gas station. Gave him $5 and saw him pump gas, pay, then leave. Walked over to pump he used and he had put $1 in it.Saw which way he went when he pulled out, and went that way. I was hoping to see him at one of the many stations along the way. No luck. Probably better off that way…

Told bride when I got home. She has a saying I like.

You did something kind, but “God balances the checkbook”.

I saw a homeless man and I asked him if I gave him $20 would you buy booze? He said no, he hadn’t had a beer in years… Then, I said if I give you $20 will you buy fishing gear? He again said no, he stopped fishing 5 years ago…

So, then I said I’ll do you better than $20… I’ll take you home and get you all cleaned up… My wife will cook a fantastic meal for you… Then, I’ll bring you back and still give you $20… He asked me won’t she get mad? I said it didn’t matter… I just want her to see what happens to a man when he stops drinking & fishing!

Never heard that.
That’s pretty good I’ll have to remember.

Before they get a chance I cut them off. I have no money and I don’t have an extra cigarette.
Had one slip up on me a while back.
Hey man. I’ll be straight up with you. I need a drink,. You got a couple bucks I can get from you??

I never give them people money…
I give old dude a couple bucks…

You find things offensive. I find things funny. That's why I'm happier than you.

22 life’s a day

One night a wino was wandering the streets looking for a place to sleep for the night. He was so tired that he ended up crashing in the parking lot of a gay club. That night two drunk patrons are walking to their car and see the wino crashed out by the back dumpster. They walk over to him, flip him over and start doing the deed. When they are done they slip $10 in his pocket and walk away. The next morning the wino wakes up and finds $10 in his pocket. He rushes over to the nearest liquor store and says, “Give me $10 of your cheapest liquor!”. The clerk obliges.

That night he falls asleep in the same parking lot. At the end of the evening the same two patrons walk out of the bar and see him again. They walk over to him, flip him over and do a repeat job on him, but this time they leave $20 for him. The next morning the wino finds the money and goes to the same liquor store and says, "Give me $20 of your best liquor. The clerk looks at him and says, "You could get more if you get the cheap stuff. The wino replies, “I know, but that cheap schitt tears my azz up.”

Misfortune can be the turn of a card.

To beg requires either that person to be a con artist…or…someone in need.

Your decision to avoid or help…is up to you.

Protect yourself at all time…but…everyone needs help at some point in their travels.

Your choice as to the consequences…for you or them.
